The only thing i can think of is to try connecting your PC to your router via ethernet cable to rule out wifi problems as i used to have problems with the 360 smartglass when on a certain wifi channel

American Dynamics - RS422 problems using CAT5

Post by Leo »

American Dynamics AD - SpeedDome Ultra 8 - V-code error

V-code is one of two things, video problems or RS422 PTZ problems

After the SpeedDome power up test was done it looks for the network and displays ( Checking Network type ) I hit the pan control to send data so the speedDome can find the network. it then displays EIA422 then V-code.

The problem looks to be the cat5 cable I am using, which is at about 800 feet.
Also when the test button on the speedDome base is pressed it does go green.

I wired a box of cat5 to a speedDome next to the DVR and tested when it would fail.
the cat5 worked at 1,300 feet and failed at 1,800 feet, the camera in the field failed at 800 feet, keeping in mind RS422 is good to 3,600'

Also when I called tech support about this problem he said that he has had calls about v-code/PTZ problems when cat5 is used

Lesson, CAT5 and RS422 not a great match.

Per American Dynamics use this cable: Belden 9406 2 Pair Shielded 22AWG Communications, $400 per 1,000

I bought and replaced the cat5 with Belden 9406 2 Pair Shielded 22AWG Communications cable and the PTZ worked at the 800' mark.
I return the signal on the other pair and put a PTZ at the end of it which is 1,600' and it worked, as it should. (good up to 3,000')

Note: both PTZ's were unterminated, when I had the one PTZ at 800' which was not working the PTZ was terminated.

- I put 4 PTZ's on 4,000' of the belden cable and they all worked fine.
