EST3 programming tips

((** PLEASE ADD YOUR TIPS TO THIS POST **))

1. use a text editor that has colors
http://www.thealarmtech.com/forum/viewt ... f=33&t=107

2. copy/paste other techs and your old rules, reinvent the wheel

3. Simple job simple rules, if the job is as simple as any alarm rings all the bells.
short labels are just fine.

4. Big job complicated rules. use long or wordy labels, when I want to est3 class the teachers taught you to use short labels which is ok for simple job, but a bad idea for complicated systems.

5. try to not rewrite the Modcom, find one that works and reuse it.

6. use brackets, every important on big systems
IE.
{ Friday, March 20, 2009 last time I update the rules}
{-----------DUCT SMOKES RETRN IN H&M----------------}
{-----------DUCT SMOKES SUPPLY IN H&M----------------}
{ ---------- ELEVATOR RECALL ----------- }
{ **** write a short story if need be ***}

7. study other Techs rules, find what you like on use it.

8. Disable switch, I like to disable the outputs individually not via a logical output group. when I look at the disable devices I can see what is going on, although if you have a printer it maybe a problem.

9. So as a rule of thumb move all rules with delays to the end..

10. Backup your projects, you have heard this more then a few times, most do not do diligent backups until they are hurt. you know you can not retrieve your project from the EST3 panel.
