hi,
Most laptops use com1 for the serial, however, newer ones that donot have serial will use a USB serial in which the port will then most likely be com3.

Partition the hard drive and dual boot the operating system with a different version on each OS. I have tried this in the same OS(win7) and it caused problems.. ended up uninstalling both versions and reinstalling 3.74

not sure if you have tried this; cannot remember off hand but you might need the password, still worth a try Program onsite - open Program in quickstart software on laptop. then from the top, Configure--->Projects, change password and download to panel.
